when i was a little girl, i had two idols. the first was toro guo wei yun, and the other was peter ho ren tung.

i first fell in love with peter ho in the "crouching tiger, hidden dragon series".



it wasnt just his good looks and awesome physique that i liked



but it was his mischievously endearing character in the movie.

strangely alot of people that i've spoken to about the series have never heard of it. they only know the movie.

i've been watching the duke of mount deer (2000), dicky cheung's version.

i've always liked that version :)
and i finally got around to watching it.

but at very unfortunate timing.
with my exams literally just around the corner, i've been rushing to finish the 40 episodes because i know i wont be able to concentrate till im done with the series.

luckily, i managed to finish the last episode tonight.

horrible but cheap nasi lemak

well, if u consider rm20 cheap that is. but at 4pounds, im pretty sure its cheaper than at any other place in the uk.

jo and i ate at the the malaysian hall today.

we stay so near, but have never went there for normal meals before. so why not try it? its cheaper than eating out at other places anyway.

the chicken in the nasi lemak sucked though. damn hard and dry. fail.

but that didnt stop me from buying some chap fan home for dinner. 2 dishes and rice for 3.80pounds. not bad!
for my dishes, i had a fish n a lamb. quite worth it i'd say.

so the next time im broke and craving malaysian food (or just broke and die die wanna eat out), im definitely coming back.

its so malaysian, even the canteen lady was talking about malaysian politics and special rights (she thought lowly of anuar coz according to her, he wanted to give away their special priviledges. and no, she wasnt speaking to me, she was speaking over my shoulder to a man. but i understand malay la!)

the first pair is obviously more feminine but the other pair (i want white) is edgier.

and both are roughly the same price.

mascara n pictures

a while ago (im not sure how long, it could have been weeks or even months, because i occasionally join random competitions online.), i joined a competition hosted by loreal beauty confidential and answered some basic questions. amazingly, a package came for me today, announcing that i had won a mascara :D

actually when i first saw the package, i thought "hmm... i thought everything i bought on ebay alreayd arrived...". then i opened it and saw the full sized mascara and thought "wait a minute... im pretty sure i didnt buy this! i already have 4 opened mascaras!" then i read the letter it came with and realization dawned. then i felt ridiculously joyful... as would you if you won something out of the blue =p

15 malaysia - chocolate

15 malaysia has been recommended to me by various friends, but i didnt actually watch them till tonight.

there will a few i liked ("meter", "one future", "slovak sling" and "halal"), but only one that made me replay it. "chocolate" (its in the title, duh!)by yasmin ahmad.

his name is hon kah hoe and he acted in talentime too, so imma watch that when i can get my grubby fingers on it. coz im ham sap like that. wtf

anyway, besides the guy, i watched it again because it ended so abruptly. the other films were all about 5mins long, but this was 3:15mins. and in those 3 minutes, yasmin ahmad managed to convey her message.

but being the dimwit i am, i had to read the comments to get a clearer picture of her message, and so if you guys wanna know what her message is, its about how racism is not inborn, but rather, it is taught/drilled in. so now you can pretend to be all smart and cultured and that you thought of this yourself.

songs and memories

its amazing how a single song can bring back so strong a memory.

a dark room, lit only by the glow of a laptop. series marathon-ing. ice-cream. a dingy toilet without a shower head. late nights. all nighters. a first kiss.

and suddenly i am there again. sucked back into that time. everything is so clear, its like i just stepped back into the room, returning from getting ice-cream in the kitchen.

romeo&juliet, kafka

i went to watch romeo and juliet @ the royal opera house with jo this evening. it was jo's xmas present to me (super domo to jo!!! love u long long time!) :D

i have watched a few musicals (grease, chicago, beauty and the beast, les miserables) before, but never any ballets. and so i expected the theaters to be quite similar. but i was wrong. the royal opera house is so so much more grand and opulent than other theaters, some of which are rather run down.

the auditorium itself is so awe-inspiring. the dominant colour being red and the lights are golden toned. just being in the building itself makes one feel posh ;)

the ballet was obviously A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. the footwork was neat and polished. extremely powerful legs and gorgeous costumes. i especially loved juliet's costumes. the way they swirled when she twirled... *le sigh*

i'd definitely recommend ballet lovers to watch it ;)

btw, they had several ppl to play romeo and juliet for different scenes, so dont be surprised if u think juliet or romeo keeps coming out to bow when the show is over. lol.

im not sure if i mentioned it before in my blog, but a few months ago, i read haruki murakami's norwegian wood. i've heard the name of this author come up several times before and it seemed like norwegian wood was a favourite of many readers, so when i came across that book in clearance in a bookstore that was closing down, i immediately bought it.

more recently, i've been itching to start reading again, so i looked up several of haruki murakami's other books. kafka on the shore seemed interesting, so i looked it up on ebay and got it cheap.

im now slightly more than half done with kafka and i think contrary to popular preference, i like kafka better. both books are slightly dark and disturbing, but kafka and its outlandish-ness appeals to me better. norweigian wood is more emo. but thats just my humble opinion.

my free perm and $5 haircut

so i'll let u guys judge for yourselves 1st, before i let u know whether i hate it or love it.

right after the perm, i went and got a haircut, also at the same toni and guy academy.
then, at about 4.30pm (i'd been there since 9.30am!), i finally left the place and wolfed down some bimbimbap at a korean restaurant nearby.

and i took this right after i got back from classes today. bear in mind i did not wash my hair since wednesday =p

oh btw, the picture quality sucks coz i took it with my laptop, then the colouring was off, so i tried to be clever and adjust it, but the adjustment didnt help much, so i gave up and it ended up like this =p
