jo, i think u mentioned this before. totally amazing. the black stuff is oreo crumbles and there's ice cream underneath. ingenious! (hmm... somehow i get the feeling i blogged about this b4...)
my last day of work was last friday and on my last few days of work, i was really racking my brain, thinking what else did i need from harrods before i could no longer use the staff discount. i couldnt come up with anything important, so that was rather anticlimactic -_-"
i did however buy some godiva chocs and some laduree macaroons ;)
alot of my peers are enjoying life right now, chilling and bumming around... actually they started doing that since june when their exams ended. i cant deny that i slightly envy them, but bumming around does tend to get mighty boring after a few weeks of it *comforts self*
compared to them, my life is still on fast forward. now that im done working at harrods, i've gotta prepare for my re-sits which will end on 17/8. after that i've got to pack up my shitloads of crap and arrange for their collection and shipping. plus i gotta finish up the mountains of food that i have lying about the house, and i intend on trying to sell some stuff on ebay and giving the rest away to juniors or whoever i know who lives in london. i've also got another session at the saloon that i've got to use up. then on 27/8 - 30/8 i'll be off to prague. on 31/8, imma sit my ass on a MAS airplane and whoosh back to Malaysia.
u'd think i'd finally be able to start chilling back home right? but noooo on 13/9 i'll be jetting off to shanghai to check out about teaching english there in exchange for learning chinese. i'll be back on 20/9 and thats where the plans have reached. anything beyond that is to be seen. if the programs they have are appealing and suitable, then i'll prolly go over to china to teach english. quite exciting :D
(eh, if i go to shanghai, i would have lived in some of the worlds most metropolitan cities! kuala lumpur, london, shanghai! err... actually KL is not in the list, but its up and coming! wtf next on my list are either NYC/LA/Tokyo.... but no la, im not too serious in trying to live in all the most metropolitan cities in the world. it was just a thought that occured to me... but u know what happens when a person gets an idea... [inception =p] )
if i dont go to china to teach english... i might stay in kuching and chamber or maybe try my luck in kl. but whats more appealing to me would be to try my luck at being an air stewardess. damn, if only i didnt get motion sickness quite so easily :(
but i iz also wans to bum around doing nothing... oh wait, i iz done that for nearly my entire degree course already. wtf
before i bitch, i wanna make clear that these incidences dont sound particularly infuriating, but bear in mind that i was working an 8 hour shift in an understaffed restaurant (which means i was running around like crazy) with only a 30min break the entire shift. also it was a generally sh*t day. kthxbai.
today, a customer came to the till with 3 cups of soft drinks. she asked if the drinks were refillable. i told her yes. she then told me that 2 of the cups were for the same daughter and she wanted me to charge her for only 2 cups. i told her that we charge each cup taken as one cup. she then loudly exclaimed "dont be silly!"
i then took all the cups and splashed them onto her face one by one and said "actually, now they're all free of charge, how much more would you like?"
obviously i didnt do that. i just bit my tongue and let her have her way because it was harrods and she was a gold tier rewards card holder.
ugh! obviously she was the one being unreasonable, but nooooo i was the one being silly. geez! so ridiculous! if she only wanted to pay for 2 cups, then return one cup la, its refillable anyway! *rolls eyes*
then there was a another rude family. see, the way the cafe i work at works is that for the hot food, the customer orders at the hot food till, then they will be given a number. the customer then takes the number and orders drinks (if they wish)at another counter and pay for it all at the last till. simple right? oh and each number given is entered as a table in the till.
so i was at the till again and this family of 4 came to me with 2 numbers. i explained that i had to do the numbers separately because they opened separate tables within the till and tables could not be combined on the till. meaning that they had to pay for one table 1st then the next table 2nd.
this obviously doesnt trouble them much at all as all they have to do is pay each amount as i tell it to them. if it troubled anyone, it would be troubling ME as i had to key in their drinks order, tell them the price, take their money, give them change and their receipt, and do it all over again (doesnt sound like much, but it all takes time and when there's a queue you dont wanna keep others waiting too long) - i would have only needed to do this once if they had ordered together and gotten only one number.
but the idiot father who was paying tried to insist i put the tables together and when i told him i couldnt, he said "this is a very stupid way of doing things!"
hellooooo... if u wanna pay for everything together then order together la! why you go and take separate numbers! its common sense to order together if you're paying together! dumbass.
but i had to bite my tongue again and act apologetic. ugh.
normally these fools dont get to me, but like i said, today was a generally crap day and i'm having my period, so its a contributory factor.
working again tomorrow from 11-8pm. my last working day is on the 7th, cant wait!
i was so upset, i went onto asos and tried to do some retail therapy and ended up with a shopping cart worth GBP115! and mum, before you panic, i did not hit the buy button. i managed to cut it down to GBP40 and saved the remaining items, to pay for when i've done my visa stuff and can touch the money i have in the bank. see... so sensible! *proud*
oh and there was one day when i was working (11am-8pm), i was asked if i would cover an event that evening in the store after my shift (8pm-11pm). i was uncertain if i should take it coz i'd obviously be exhausted by then, but i figured what the heck, its just another 3 hours and they were paying GBP12/hr -its nearly twice my normal wage per hour! so i took it. unfortunately i didnt get to see any celebs (i was hoping to see jennifer aniston coz she was coming to the store the next day to launch her perfume), but i guess the pay itself was incentive enough. my arms were dying by the end of the night though, coz we had to carry huge heavy plates of hors d'oeuvres for 2 hours straight, circulating the room, a plate of food in one hand, a plate of tissues in the other, and we couldnt put them down to rest our arms (duh, if not it'd look so un-posh. lol). imagine trying to gracefully extend a plate to a patron when your arm muscles are cramping and screaming in protest. i have a new found respect for banqueting staff.
and since we're on the topic of waitressing stuff, here's a "welcome to my restaurant" pic.
and no, thats not my uniform -_-" its from the set of studio pics i mentioned before.
these few weeks are gonna be super packed for me. im working on the 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 16th and 17th*.
on the 5th im going for afternoon tea with jo, on the 6th i'm gonna go to a studio**, on the 9th i have the black tie dinner for dining at lincolns inn, on the 13th i have another dining and my kdu friends are coming over in the afternoon to make sushi.
so my only 2 free days in the next 15 days are on the 14th and 15th -_-"
*im also watching swan lake at 7.30pm
**i bought this package thingy (GBP30 if im not mistaken) over a month ago and it included a "luxury day at studio london" which includes: -champagne reception -mini facial -hand massage -hair styling -makeover -photo shoot - one free image on print or disc
the other part of the package (which imma do next time when i can find time) was for a salon called jordan burr. 1st visit: -consultation -cleansing n conditioning treatment - designer cut shampoo n style -colour consultation
2nd visit: -follow up consultation -highlights (up to 12 foils) - shampoo n finish - hair treatment
3rd visit: -follow up consultation - accent highlights - cut n finish - valid 4 times in 1 yr (means the 3rd visit stuff can be done 4 times within the yr)
im prolly only gonna do the 1st n 2nd visit then pass my remaining one to a fren to use. i thought this package wasnt bad... quite worth it what... got damn alot of things. hahaha...
sorry for the MIA-ness, but i've been freaking tired everyday after work.
i only work 3 days a week, but that is enough for me! especially since im required to wear heels to work and the only time i can sit down is during my 2 breaks. 1st break is 45 mins, 2nd is 30 mins. if u count in the time it takes to walk to the staff canteen, line up to get n pay for food, visit the loo and walk back to the cafe, i only get to sit roughly 20 mins or less each time.
tmr i have to be at work from 9am-8pm, so i dont care, imma wear flats!
also the makeup requirement (its freaking *harods , so the staff have to look good) makes me wake up an extra hour earlier each day coz i take forever to do makeup. so for tomorrow, i'll have to wake up at 7am. the other hour is for travel time, and when i reach there, i have to turn in my dirty uniform for a fresh one. that all takes time as well. but i do like that i dont have to do laundry for my uniform :D (at least not the top half, the slacks are mine.)
but whining aside, i do like my new job very much. so far everyone has been very nice to me and i've not encountered any super horrible customers :D also, i'm learning how to make proper coffee. whilst i dont drink coffee myself, i still find it very interesting to learn how to make, and the smell is lovely ;)
*i left one "r" out incase they track websites... i dont want them to stumble across this! how awkward... :S

besides work, what i've been doing during my spare time is trying to sort out my visa extension. my visa ends in early august, but i have some resits to do mid-august, so i'll have to extend my visa to cover those dates.
im quite dissatisfied with my uni coz they dont really have a international student services department. all they give us is an email address for the "visa office". you cant even meet an advisor to chat with them face to face about whatever help you may need.
and when i emailed them, most of the reply was just "check with the uk border agency". WTF, how very helpful. if the info was so easy to find, why do you think i emailed you in the 1st place??? *rolls eyes*
sure most of the info is there, but aren't you supposed to provide support and help to the students??? damn lazy. and there are also documents that would help an application, but are not necessary for the application and therefore aren't on the UKBA website. dont you think students would like to know that?? i mean, a visa extension costs GBP357, so you can be damned sure imma throw in everything that i can to help support my application!
ugh, im just so disgusted at their lack of international student support.
***************
well, thats what i've been up to. oh and i am most probably going to legoland on friday! :D
been getting bored with how my blog looks and cant find a blog skin that i like, so i just tweaked the colours a little. like it?
***************
for those who are in the UK, are cheap like me and love freebies, THIS is an amazing website. just sign up and they will send emails to you whenever there are freebies available. all u have to do is to follow the instructions and viola! freebies in the mail! or you could get vouchers too!
they always put up rimmel competitions on the site. so far i've received 2 mascaras and a foundation from rimmel. all full sized! this was the latest mascara i received. cant wait to try it out!!! and this is the foundation i received. i have it in soft beige. its a tad dark for my skin, but i match it with my current foundation which is a tad light. hehe~
Another awesome site is MyCityDeal. they have daily deals that are emailed straight to you. the way is works is that they sell you vouchers to events, restaurants, spas, salons... etc., at huge discounts. for example, you pay £8 for £20 worth of food at a restaurant. or you pay £25 for a beauty treatment that originally costs £150.
those are my 2 favourite cheapo sites right now :D
and recently i bought some roxy (dress £9.99) n ripcurl stuff from this site. it sells semi-branded stuff pretty cheap. standard delivery is £3.99 and my stuff arrived in 3 days.
ok... enough about money going out. lets talk about money coming in! i've got a job at HARRODS!!! ok fine, so i'm just waiting staff at a kids restaurant in harrods, but its still freaking harrods can! i'll be eligible for store wide staff discounts too (so thats money going out again...)! the pay isnt as high as i'd like it to be, but its ok, better than minimum wage and also nearly £2 more than my previous pay (£4.80) at subway.
err... thats about all i can say. they're really strict at harrods and i had to sign a contract which included a confidentiality clause. i doubt i'll be seeing any celebrities though... unless they bring their kids to the kids restaurant for lunch or something. oh and before i was allowed to work there, i had to go for a medical check-up at the staff building and submit a stool sample to make sure we have no infections or something (coz i'll be handling food). i hope my stool sample comes out clear! =p
