i've been here only 8 months and i am already on my 5th bottle of lotion.
so i figured i'd better put some of that lotion experience to use and write a review of all the lotions i've used since coming to the uk.
i arrived here with a small 120ml bottle of
vaseline essential moisture lotion.
i didnt bring a big bottle because the travel sized bottle was supposed to tide me over until i had settled down.
i think this was an ok lotion. despite the words "essential moisture", i didnt find the lotion very rich. it was more watery than creamy actually. the good news about watery lotion is that it dries fast. whether or not it is absorbed or it evaporated like water, im not sure... half half?
i'd recommend this lotion to those staying in more humid countries like malaysia, as it is not the rich oily kind that would make you feel uncomfortable when u start sweating. however, if you want soft smooth skin in a dry country like uk, this is not for you.
the next lotion i tried was the
ted baker heavenly body souffle (5.95pounds) which i got in boots.
i think this was pretty good :)
at 1st, i thought the scent was pleasant and didnt think too much of it, but the more i used it, the more the scent grew on me and now i think the scent is
very very nice indeed!
also, the cream is satisfyingly rich and moisturises really well.
on the downside, it may take awhile for your skin to absorb. this is not a problem to me as i have developed the habit of sitting around semi-naked in my room after i shower to allow my lotion to absorb into my skin (i really dont like the idea of lotion transferring to my clothes). but this may cause problems for those with roommates =p
then came my mild No7 craze and i bought
No7 completely quenched luxurious moisture lotion.
this set me back 9.05pounds. (ouch!)
btw, the link is for the american boots. i dont know why i cant find it in the uk boots.
the scent for this one was not as nice as the ted baker one, but still it was quite nice. its is also not as rich, and the absorbence time is about the same.
basically its a decent lotion overall, but nothing to shout about.
and definitely not value for money.
after that lotion, i was thirsting for a rich yet affordable lotion. and i knew just what to get. the trusty
palmers cocoa butter!
i've used this before in malaysia and absolutely love the smell to bits! for those that have never smelt this lotion before, it smells like freshly baked cookies! no kidding!
and this lotion is really creamy and rich. waiting for it to fully absorb may be a pain, but its worth the wait! however, i didnt enjoy using it as much in malaysia because if u sweat within the 1st few hours of applying this lotion, u get an oily feeling. and unless u dont leave your air conditioned room, its pretty hard not to sweat in malaysia.
when this lotion was nearly finished, i bought
sanctuary spa essentials creme souffle. sounds more like food than creme =p
(8.76pounds)
pretty pricey as well, but considering that its semi-branded and a really big tub(more than twice the volume of the No7), it balances out :)
the great thing about this lotion is that although it is quite rich, it absorbs really quickly! great for when u need to go out soon after your shower =p
the smell is so-so, some might not like it, but i find it ok.
as the name says, its a creme souffle, so the lotion has been whipped and is exceedingly soft! like applying whipped cream to your body! when i 1st started, due to the texture of the cream, i was unsure how much to put, but as i use it more often, im getting better at approximating how much to use.
ah and the good thing about creams in tubs is that there will be no wastage! unlike the cream in bottles. i always feel so sayang for the left over cream :(
so if its a tube (eg. conditioner), i'll cut it open to scrape off all the remainders. you'd be surprised at how much remainder there is in the tube! sometimes enough for me to use up to 3 more times!
so thats all the lotions i've used since coming here. i dont think im gonna repeat any of them soon as i like trying out new brands. hehe~
its really difficult to rank them from worst to best or vice versa because i think they're all good at different stuff... but a review is not complete without a ranking... :(
aiyah, here goes la.
from worst to best (factors such as climate and price were considered):
5.vaseline
4.No7
3.sanctuary
2.palmers
1.ted baker
actually palmers, sanctuary and ted baker tied.
so i had to deduct points from sanctuary because of its scent.
then between palmers and ted baker -both of which smell beautiful, i deducted points from palmers because of the oily feeling i sometimes get when using it. thus deriving at my rankings.
the end! i hope u liked my review =p
