it time for random pictures again!
i uploaded these into my laptop eons ago, but was to lazy to upload them into flickr and onto my blog. and what better time than when im supposed to be studying for my upcoming mocks! wtf
i was walking to bayswater when i saw this van/truck.
ok, am i the only one who thinks this is funny?
my first ever attempt at making tamago! (val, stop laughing at me T_T i know you are wayyy more pro.)
btw for those of you who dont know what tamago is, its japanese egg ommelete. the yellow sweet thing usually wrapped on top of sushi.
its no beauty queen, but it being my first attempt and using a round saucepan instead of a rectangular one like you're supposed to, i'd say this is pretty good! =p
i mentioned awhile back that i was bringing bentos to college, and this is one of them!
the only bento i ever took a picture of actually.
summore got tauhu hidden!
so super derduperly healthy right!
speaking of healthy, im in the midst of a bet! if i win i get an itouch/ sponsored half the price of an iphone. if i lose, then i just dont get it la. haha...
the bet is that i have to lose weight till i weigh 48kg by april! something i've been trying to do anyway (not with this time line, but the sooner the better!).
the stakes of the bet speaks volumes of how confident the person is about me losing T___T
i love staying next to paddington station! not only because its soo convenient, but also because interesting things happen there!
once in awhile we get people doing demonstrations such as this one.
summore got the cement mixer thing! so realistic!
can you guess what they're doing?
they're demonstrating against fake medicine (duh!).
randall and aubin.
best seafood place i've been to in london!
(and possibly ONLY seafood place. but lets not detract from how great it is ok?)
i had been craving seafood, so after an intensive scan of online reccommendations and reviews, i chose this one. and no regrets!
free bread and olives... or so you think, until you see the bill.
view from the window.
the restaurant is located in soho btw.
for a good long minute i thought that the sign said soho books. then thought to myself that it didnt look like much of a bookstore what with bondage-ish mannequins on display (you cant see it from this picture). a minute later it hit me that the sign said soho boobs -__-"
the semi-famous frozen yoghurt store.
i didnt like it the first time i tried it, but i gave it another chance, this time with agave nectar as one of the toppings to counter the sour taste, at it was yummehhhh~~~
ok, back to the restaurant. they prepared all the seafood fish market style. meaning right there in full view. one could learn alot about seafood just watching them.
sorry, no pictures of the food (i had a heavenly lobster). we were so hungry, i gobbled everything down and only remembered about taking pictures when my hands were wrist deep in lobster (not literally la! what kinda giant lobster is that!).
after seeing me eat, my friend whom i was eating with told me i should never eat lobster on my first date. totally turn the guy off because i eat worse than a male. wtf fml
carnaby all decorated for xmas!
really really beautiful and magical :D
where's wally?
while we were walking down carnaby street, a whole horde of wally's walked past us! some even had the cane!
i got so excited i just stared at them, wanting to drink in the unusual sight, that i forgot to take pictures until they were nearly all gone! T_T
my first ever onigiri!
the little triangular lump smothered in seaweed was the leftover rice.
i forgot what filling i used. salmon i think.
worst asparagus ever! freaking yellow and wilted ok!
dont ever go to scotch steak house.
my biggest attempt at dolling up in a looooooonnnggggg time.
i curled my hair, pinned it up, put on a cute outfit, wore contact lenses, did my makeup... the works.
must take more pictures because i have no idea when is the next time i will bother again.
usually when i go out, i just wash, tone, moisturize and comb my hair. to hell with makeup and contacts. wtf
im camwhoring with jo's mirror because her mirror is way convenient to camwhore with and i think the lighting's better. haha...
all made up. but you cant really tell. its called natural ok!
so amazing right my photographer... managed to cut part of both my feet and head off
-_-"
if you're wondering about the hair, it was a sort of experiment. i wound up little sections of my wet hair and pinned them up. then i tried to set it with my hairdryer. the end result was frizzy curls. looked better than it sounds =p
with a sweater...
and a jacket on top of the sweater...
not counting under garments, i had 4 layers on!
and i love layering ;)
in the lift still camwhoring...
best pimms i've tried so far!
i like it because it doesnt taste like alcohol at all! =p
sorry, the bread was too good.
fragrant and warm. complimentary bread that is so delicious is rare!
i forgot what seafood this was... either mussels or scallops. anyhow it was deeeelish!
foie gras!
my first taste of it! i quite liked it, but after while i felt jelak :S
duck
lamb
we ate at savoir faire. it came up on google after i typed "romantic and cheap restaurant in london". LOL
for the food we ate, it was really reasonably priced! forgot how much though... =p
at paddington again!
i think they were trying to raise funds for something.
my filling fell out a few months ago, so i bought this to serve as a temporary fix. it works, but falls out in about a week, so i have to keep redoing it. luckily, there's plenty of stuff in the bottle! sure the bottle is tiny, but the amount i need for a filling is puny!
i really dont want to go to a dentist here. the last time i had my filling done here, it cost close to 50pounds!
small funfair at i-dunno-what-this-area-is-called.
its close to chinatown.
i didnt mean to take the truck. i was aiming for the merry go round -__-"
dress i saw at jane norman and adored.
but i didnt buy it because i already bought...
this!
i got it for 15pounds at a sample sale. loves it!
(i told you jo's mirror was more convenient)
i can wear this for CNY! =p
sushi buffet with jo, leonard, billy and natalie.
the buffet worked in an unusual way. you ticked what you wanted and they would serve an amount that they estimated for the amount of people you had at your table.
i had never eaten so much sashimi in my life! jo and nat didnt really touch the sashimi, so it was just me and the two guys devouring it.
the annoying spotlight was from the lamp above us.
jo gave this to me.
custom printed.
i feel the love.
shaddap sardine. at least I got a shirt. wtf

super brief summary of trip
it snowed on the very day i left for malta. in the bus on the way to the airport, i watched the snow drift down and thought it very fortuitous that i managed to evade the snow just in time.
however, malta was a huge disappointment. and the cancellation of the return flight didnt help matters. a last minute flurry of finding a room for the night ensued. the room sucked. no wonder there was a room available at last minute. no one else must have wanted to stay there.
malta itself was beautiful and the people friendly. however, unlike venice, it doesnt have many shops that sell kitsch and unique souvenirs that you wont find in other cities. so it meant that after sight seeing, there wasnt anything to occupy your time with. we took an hour long ride to golden bay, just to take pictures for 5 mins then turn around to wait for the bus to head back -_-" there was nothing at golden bay. just a beach, a hotel and a cafe. nothing to see but the sea. we couldnt even do any water sports because the waves were too strong. there were only TWO people on the beach.
there wasnt anything in malta that captivated my interest or compelled me to return. the only particularly nice thing about malta was the scenery. the sea was such a gorgeous blue, none of the pictures i took could do it justice. i also liked the way the buildings were arranged. it reminded me of tamadun indus because one of the special things about that civilization was the neat arrangement of the buildings ;)
nevertheless, like rome (hot and boring, its redeeming factor being it's gelato) , its a city i dont hope to return to.
i guess a conclusion most would come to is that i have no or little appreciation for scenery or buildings. that is partly true, yet also wrong. i DO think markets and variety of food (btw, the food i ate in malta wasnt that good. sure there was a lot of seafood, but nah, nothing memorable) are more interesting, but i also admire the sheer beauty of oxford city (love the sprawling fields and quaint architecture) and venice (the canals and how everything is connected).

sssshishaaaa
did i mention that i'll be going off to malta for about 3 days? well u know now =p
been to two house parties with a break of one day in between. and thats enough partying to last me a looong time. boy am i aging!
shisha-ed all night for the 2nd one. non-stop from about 2-5.30am. was really worried about killing my throat, but thanks to the bucket loads of h2o i drank, my throat was fine save for a little itching.
i'd nvr shisha-ed so much before, so i guess u could say this was a pretty big step for my throat and lungs. i only did shisha about 3 times b4 this and less than 10 puffs each time. so managing to keep going for so long impressed myself quite abit. *wink*
but then again, it could be because i mixed the flavours myself and it was crap, so it wasnt potent. hahahahahahahahaaha
eh, but not bad for a first timer (i mean setting up the bong) ok.
hmmm... not gonna say much else now coz im heading off to bed, but i have a rant about pauls to type out... if i remember.

wishful thinking
so its december again. and by the looks of the lights at oxford street and the throngs of kids and families at hamleys, it looks like xmas cheer is all about!
im really supposed to be doing my legal research assignment, but i couldnt resist a little online browsing.
and so as i browsed, i composed a wish list of the things i saw. note that this is a very wishful wish list =p
white and silver sequined dress from boohoo.
i've been eyeing this dress ever since it entered the collection nearly a month ago, and at 20pounds, its comparatively cheap (pound-wise).
but honestly, i dont really have any occasion to wear this to. and i have at least 2 other pretty dinner/party dresses still hanging unworn in my wardrobe. but it doesnt stop me from looking wistfully at it everytime i receive a boohoo newsletter T_T
jimmy choo for h&m (i want the shoe on the left)
at h&m prices, a jimmy choo is a bargain. and i dont deny how very gorgeous i think it is.
but look at the height of those heels! and where will i wear it to??? im certainly not gonna traipse around the cobbled stones of london in those ankle traps. also, i have around 15 pairs of shoes already! and those are only the shoes i have in london, not counting the ones i have in malaysia...
besides... they're prolly all sold out already.
asos mac
i just love the shape! plus i have nearly 10 coats and jackets already, but no mac! on the other hand, having said that i already own so many coats and jackets, i have no use for a mac. but isnt it just so tempting?? T_T
too faced "glamour to go" palette @ asos
im loving the shades of the eye shadows and at 13pounds, it is comparatively cheap for a "too faced" product.
but i already have soo many cosmetic products, there is no way i will be able to justify buying this. plus i hardly ever wear makeup -only for special occasions or dinings T_T
Full Circle Print Voile Babydoll Top
normally priced 50pounds, now selling for 18pounds. there really isnt any reason i should hold myself back right?
my bursting wardrobe says otherwise :(
packing to return to malaysia is already gonna be hell, so what is one more top right? right??
and look at how cute the back is!
but with the temperature constantly dropping, when will i ever get to wear it??
*sigh*
i just realized that this must look like a really strange wish list. usually ppl just state why they want something, and not the reason why they dont just go out and grab it for themselves. oh wells, im cheong hei like that. but the reasons that i listed for not buying the items, in no way detracts how much i long to possess them!
and oh ya, this is not an exhaustive wish list. but i have work to do now, so dont be surprised if the next time you visit my blog again, this list has tripled. wtf

^_^
when you are mean to somebody, the assumption is that they will dislike you, not freaking develop a crush. wtf
anyways, the pace of BVC life is picking up (they just had to squeeze in two assessments before the december break). which unfortunately means less time for frivolity. but i still managed to squeeze in the first two books in the twilight series.
after reading the book though, i felt that the books were very amateurish. like i was reading someone's draft and not the real thing. too many loopholes and implausible stuff.
but i must admit i quite liked the movie. robert pattinson's portrayal of edward is probably why twilight became famous. not the books themselves. because if im not mistaken, people only started reading the books after the movie came out.
yes, i am quite quite disappointed with the books.
but it isnt gonna stop me from reading the last two volumes. because im completist like that. wtf
whoops, its dinner time. gtg have dinner then do my reading (study related).

mild horror
if u are like me and like to watch films that scare or disturb you ever so slightly, then i would recommend that you watch thirst and hansel and gretel.
when i say "ever so slightly", i mean ever so slightly.
not those kind of horror films that make u stay awake all night because you are too afraid to sleep. but more like it makes you just a little jittery and when your imagination gets the best of you, you keep thinking about it. but no scary ghosts or overly gory scenes (nudity in "thirst" though).
hansel and gretel is a must watch. its not particularly scary at all, but it makes you think a little. plus the cinematography is beautiful ;)
btw, both are korean films.
"thirst" won the Jury Prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
"hansel and gretel" was shown at several film festivals.
just to ensure you that im not wasting your time =p

weather, studies, bento, an upcoming birthday.
i just noticed that i had 808 posts, last count.
how lucky :)
anyways, winter is definitely gonna be a cold one this year. its only the beginning of november and the weather hasnt risen above 10degrees this past week. out comes my winter coat! which btw matches my backpack. pictures maybe next time :)
1) i was reading a couple of bento blogs and they were soo inspiring. here is one.
2) money. i was spending too much on ebay, and i had lunches out nearly daily. so i had to start saving moolah. (but then again, i started spending on bento making stuff ie. rice moulds and chopsticks in a case. wtf)
3) weight. i had put on weight, and i didnt like how i was beginning to look. plus, my clothes are usually fitting, so weight gain makes some of them too tight for comfort or aesthetics.
bringing bentos to uni make me happy though. even if it means waking up slightly earlier to prepare them. everytime i make a bento, i get excited to eat it :D
plus, my bentos are really healthy! so thats good too.
oh, and for those of u who dont know what cha cha mooli is, its basically cha kueh =p
and thats all the updates thats been happening in my very bvc oriented life T_T
how lucky :)

there's loads of work as usual, i had a consolidation week not too long ago, but that was barely a break before hitting the books again. not that the week was supposed to be a break (it being for consolidation and all ya'know?).***************
i started bringing packed lunch to classes a few weeks ago. and thankfully, have managed to keep it up until now. im doing this for several reasons:1) i was reading a couple of bento blogs and they were soo inspiring. here is one.

fortune teller
i saw a tarot card reader today.
she had set herself up on a corner of a bookshop that was about to close. and since i had always wanted to have my future read, i leapt at my (very expensive) chance.
i came away from the table with only a hazy recollection of what the lady was talking about. at one point through my 20 minutes, i remember wishing i had brought a pen and paper with me to write down the things she said. a voice recorder would have been even better.
but oh wells, all i have now is my very unreliable memory.
i asked her about my career. the younger me would have found this exceedingly odd. i always imagined myself asking more frivolous stuff, like about my love life.
but i guess the pressing question in my mind is whether i really ought to practice law, or should i be doing something else.
it was the reader (i shall just call her "reader" because its fewer words and letters) who suggested i ask these questions (if i continue with law, will i be successful? if i change fields, what will it be and when will i know?) when i told her i wanted to ask about my career. it slightly surprised me how she managed to get to the root of my problem so explicitly when i gave her minimal information. but then again, she's supposed to be clairvoyant after all.
as for the answers i received, they were much more vague.
all i can remember is that she said if i did stick to this field, i would find success. but if i did change fields, i too would find success. (yes, i do think she might have been playing it safe there) but she did say that i might have problems with the oncoming exams (a not so good card), she also mentioned traveling. that i might take a gap year off next year or something. and err... that when i was done with traveling, would be offered a junior position somewhere, but it was not in the UK.
what else... hmm...
she mentioned me meeting a guy next year who would be instrumental in deciding which field i should go into, should i decide to change fields. this guy could also be a romantic interest.
she kept saying that she sensed that i was a romantic. and at one point, when we were asking about how successful i would be in law, she suddenly burst out saying something along the lines of "would you rather just get married and have children??" which kinda surprised me, but i did find myself nodding. LOL
and she said she saw me marrying in about 4 years time with 3-4 kids. hmm... random.
she also said that i could consider journalism. she kept asking if i was creative. i didnt really answer that though because i didnt think i was particularly creative.
gosh, i really cant remember what else she said.
oh ya, she asked if i was the visual type of person. like i would see things and realize things that others usually wouldnt think of. then she gave the example of sitting in a train opposite a guy with funny ears and noticing the ears. i said yes. but on afterthought, wouldnt most people?
before we ended, i suddenly asked if she could see my aura (it was in the pamphlet ok!). she said mine was pink and orange. pink was good stuff like charisma, but orange was stress. hmm... i never thought of myself as particularly stressed. :(
and i guess thats it!

of how a sponsorship fell onto my lap
im not sure if i've mentioned this before, but i choose my dining nights based on the menu. and tonights meal certainly did not disappoint! it was by far the best food i've had of all my dining sessions :D
this was the menu:
Cream of Artichoke Soup laced with Truffle Oil
***
Grilled Seabass, Chive Mash & Fennel Cream
***
Sirloin of Beef Chasseur
Braised New Potatoes
Boiled Courgettes
***
Panna Cotta with Roasted Pineapple
***
Dessert & Coffee
the seabass was delicious and the steak was perfect. it was medium rare and extremely tender, just the way i like it :D
oh and i think i should explain what the dinings are in case you have been reading and dont understand what im talking about.
in order to be called to the bar, it is not enough to just take the bar vocational course, we have to join an inn (there are 4 inns to choose from. i chose lincolns because it has the highest number of malaysians) as well. it is the inns that will call us to the bar. but in order to qualify, we will need to attend a certain number of qualifying sessions (12 i think) and these qualifying sessions are called dinings.
ok, thats my explanation, meaning thats what i think is right, but feel free to correct me if im wrong =p
anways, back to my title, tonight was sponsorship night. i didnt have a sponsor, but i went anyway because the menu was good (and totally worth even if i had to be alone and not have anyone to talk to because everyone else was trying to get to know their sponsors).
so there i was, sitting there sponsorless, when the barrister diagonally opposite me asked me if i had a sponsor. i said no, and he offered to be my sponsor even though he was already sponsoring 3 other students! woohoo! am i lucky or what (or is he just collecting students???)! hahaha...
oh btw, a sponsor is basically a mentor for the students. some really lucky/brilliant students manage to get pupillages with their mentors help, or even from their mentors!
i originally didnt bother applying to have a sponsor because im not that into law anyway and dont have super deep questions to ask, nor would i want to be sucked into a deep conversation about politics/laws/whatever else, but since i got offered a sponsorship without even applying for one, i'd be a fool to reject! who knows, a pupillage might fall into my lap next ;)

domus dining
i had dining at lincolns inn tonight and it went pretty well :D
the highlight was that i sat opposite CHERIE BLAIR! (ok fine, opposite diagonally, but details details, who cares! wtf)
i didnt talk much to her though... the guys next and opposite her were hogging all her attention, talking about super deep stuff that my shallow brain cant handle, so i talked to the girls next to and opposite me instead. wtf
i had a sudden thought... god forbid she google alerts her name and is reading this right now.
*shrivels in mortification*
anyway, she was really nice though, i just didnt dare say much lest my lack of knowledge becomes apparent :(
oh and the food tonight was excellent! my favourite was the 2nd course where we had salmon on toast (except that the bread was called croque). i think the chocolate in the dessert was overkill though my new friends seemed to not be able to get enough of it.
oh and we had like 4 differently sized glasses and 4 sets of cutlery, not to mention the dessert spoons. damn atas. hahahahahaah
and there was a part of the dinner towards the end when we all raised our glasses of port and said "to the queen!". super atas weiiii *sakai*
ok la, thats all. i have 4 more dinings this sem, but they wont be as interesting coz i bet cherie blair wont be there anymore and also coz the domus dinner is the fanciest dinning night already. there is a grande dinner, but im not going to that one.

i've been caked
im not sure which lecturer came up with this, but basically anyone whose phone goes off in class (or any other similar transgression), gets caked.
this means that for the next lesson, they will have to bring cake for everyone in class.
so the other day, my phone went off and i got caked.
personally, it was the perfect excuse for me to start baking again ;)
so i whipped out my "hummingbird bakery" recipe book (that i got for about 3 or 4 pounds at a book sale) and got busy.
i chose a chocolate cake and although i didnt have a few ingredients, i substituted =p
i used soya milk instead of whole milk coz that was all i could find in the fridge (domo arigato jo!) and completely omitted the vanilla essence because i ran out of it and was too lazy to go out and buy some. also i made up my own frosting that was wayyy too liquid and in the end i barely used any of it.
BUT the cake still turned out great! really moist and chocolatey! i do wanna try it again with the proper ingredients though... im sure it'll taste much richer! :D
sorry, no pics, maybe next time =p

i finally have internet! no more barging into jo's room to bug her while she tries to watch house =p
ok, so i havent posted any pics of my new place, so one of the 1st things i did was to transfer pics from my phone to flickr. and in doing so, i discovered half a zillion old pictures that i'd nearly all but forgotten.
so from a couple of selected pictures, i'll sum up my year ;)
ok, so i kinda lied. this was recently transferred from my mum's phone and taken circa 2006.
it me, chump n cherie.
chump has no eyes!
do we look alike?
this was taken early 2007. i was bored and snapped a photo of myself on my mum's phone n was surprised to see how anorexic (and boobless) i looked, so i took more!
alas, i was 48kg then and have since gained about 5kg :(
CNY 2008
and finally we come to this year's pics.
blue monday @ sushi king.
witness my gluttony!
nah, i didnt eat all that alone!
this was the worst batch of bread ever!
subway was a huge part of my life for some time.
for awhile, it seemed like all i ever did was go to work and go home.
and that's thali's arm.
i loved the people there, it almost made up for the pitiful salary. almost.
my trip to manchester!
where bernie allowed me to ride his bike and i nearly got myself killed several times.
eye of manchester.
this was my phone's wallpaper for some time.
the stupid "michelin starred british food restaurant".
please remind me about this incident the next time bernie suggests a place to eat...
in this picture, i was trying on a pair of high waisted shorts but wasnt sure about them.
i ended up not buying them coz i decided i couldnt pull it off.
yes, i was very much into knee high socks for a time.
(i miss my long hair T_T)
giving high waisted shorts another shot.
and i do quite regret not buying them T_T
my 1st ever cap!
im not a hat person, so when i found a cap that fit me, i was soo happy, i bought it immediately. only to have friends tell me that the hat was still too big for me T_T
oh the sorrows of a small head.
(i miss my long hair T_T)
this was when it was summer.
i didnt think it was gonna be cold, so i just wore the cardigan n skirt out. it got really chilly, so i pulled my scarf out and got laughed at again because my whole outfit just looked wierd. like my top half was in winter and my bottom half was in summer. T_T
why do i always get laughed at T__T
exam time!
and then graduation
one of the biggest roses i have ever seen!
jeannie's birthday
(i wonder how many of u have noticed by now that my chronology is shit)
have i mentioned how much i miss my long hair? i miss my long hair.
@ anson's birthday
and thats anson with a very chubby me.
48kg, where did u go!
my brief addiction to ebay.
taken last month when kiong, stella and i decided to take a night stroll around london
lets all laugh at kiong's beggar shirt, that he's very proud of coz his nipples can be seen. wtf
not to mention that knowing kiong, his shirt prolly cost a bomb.
my phone's wallpaper is now of the london eye. sans people of course.
and finally we've reached the pictures of my new room.
view from the doorway.
according to jo, it looks like i've lived here all my life.
but i've only been here a month =p
my cupboard and table.
maybe i'll post up pics of the kitchen next time :)
