Hmm... a chance to help decide which path Amy takes... lol...

I'll base my comments on what I would do. I don't plan to be involved in International Commercial practice (if this is in regards to trading between nations etc.) so I would not do that. International Commercial practice could be a lucrative area if you excel because trade occurs in huge volumes and expertise in that area will earn u a lot of money. Furthermore, international regulation in trade is quite an undeveloped area of law because with Multinational firms having subsidiaries in foreign companies, a lot of trade that goes on inter-country is not regulated and domestic laws of the Parent company will not apply in the other country, so in my knowledge, Int'l commercial practice requires innovation in the law and u'll be valuable if u can create something.

ADR: is a safe choice and I would do it because i think it may be important in litigation based dealings. Would be good if you plan to practice and solve real life disputes with people. I would consider getting training form CIArb for arbitration in the future... Would also look good behind ur title if u were a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (http://www.ciarb.org/joining-us/grades-of-membership-1/)

Employment Tribunal Practice: Hmm.. I think most places have got employment laws and it litigations may have those kind of matters so may be important too, but again I don't think I would do this cos it sounds boring... :P

Are these ur BVC subjects btw? Have fun!!! Now back to exams :(

i was leaning towards ADR as well. not for the CIArb reason, but because i thought that it would be more fun, plus in real life, most ppl try to avoid going to court, so most cases are going to be settled by ADR. thus it would be very relevant to my future -if i do go into law.

yea, they're my bvc subjects. for the bar, its more about the court procedures and documents though. the law is taken to have been understood.

btw thanks for the really long comment ron! and good luck for ur exams!

ICP is going to be damn useful (i assume you've figured that out from the first comment).

ADR is something easy and practical.

ETP was my intensive elective. I fell in love with it. According to my lecturer (also one of the leading employment relations lawyer), not many lawyers practise in this area and is definitely good money.

Since i've already done the last one, i'd pick ICP for the sake of increasing chances of getting a job considering the low unemployment rate now. I wouldn't agree with your reasons for choosing ADR. Such skills can be developed through working experiences. You dont need to pay to study that, unless you're into CIArb. Besides, some law firms may sponsor you to these courses during your employment. =P

ETP is definitely not a boring elective, although it sounds like it. I find it very interesting when we came across OHS - Occupational Health and Safety, laws. I think everyone has a narrow concept about employment relations law, eg suing your boss for molesting you (workplace sexual harrasment).

OHS issue is definitely happening at every workplace, especially those where there are risks and dangers, eg mining site, construction site, etc. Say, if a worker falls off from a construction site and died instantly. The first person to call is probably a lawyer. That is when the lawyer comes to the 'crime scene' and investigates and gathers every evidence way before the police comes. The lawyer would then advice the client what to say and not to say, stuff like that.

As you can see, it's not just about suing your employer for squeezing your butt or accusing your employee for stealing office printing papers. It's definitely more interesting than that.

At the end of the day, if you're thinking about practicability and getting a job, choose something that is easy and you are interested in, so that you can get good grades. The cruel fact is, most and by large employers don't give a shit about what you do, but how you do. Think about it. =)

charles: oh crap, i typed everything out, but the connection screwed up. oh wells. thanks for the super long reply! :D
lemme try to remember wad i typed.
im personally interested in employment too. thats why i took it as an elective last year. but since i've done it, i thought it would be good to pick up something new. it was hard not to pick this again though.

as for commercial, the main reason i thought of picking it was because of relevance and usefulness. but then again i've done this too. and upon recollection, that was disastrous.

so after much indecision (and reading ron's comment), i settled for ADR. the reasons being:
a) fun (there is role playing involved)
b) easier to pass (im assuming this because it involves less paperwork and im not a paperwork person)
c) i havent done this as a sole subject before (unlike the other two)

In that case, you've got yourself something easy to score. =)

Goodluck with your bvc. I've still got a freaking long way to go. But then, it doesn't really matter since it's do damn hard to find a job now. LOL.

Glad u decided to pick ADR! I guess it's very popular these days but the problem with popular things is that it could be a bubble (e.g. DotCom boom/IT Boom).. but in my opinion learning anything new is beneficial! :D

So.. when does BVC end? Can't believe u'll be fully qualified really soon! And we were from the same batch!

ron: lol. it is pretty popular, most ppl i know are taking it too. but i honestly think it'll be relevant in the future!
