going back & buffet

im going back home nxt weekend! wheee!!!

but its just from fri evening to sunday night. im gonna bring my laptop back and hopefully it can get reformatted. i brought it to get reformatted at digital mall, but it was RM80 which i find rather steep (coz im cheap like that), so i shall bring it home with me. if i recall correctly, it only costs about RM40 at saberkas. hahaha

on saturday im also gonna get a followup jab at forgot-wad-name-clinic with my sister and i have a dentist appointment at 2pm.

i wanted to go to the dentist because my mouth has been tasting/smelling slightly odd in the mornings. like when you have a cavity. so i suspect i have one somewhere although nothing hurts. just in case ;)

reb and i went for the buffet @ tenji last night.
we arrived at nearly 9 and were informed that after 9, there would be a buy one free one offer. so we waited until 9 and there were soo many other ppl doing the same thing too. haha... cheapo malaysians. its 88 per pax, but after including tax and wadever else they included, it was $102.10. and since it was buy one free one, it cost $102.10 for both of us. thankgoodness there was the buy one free one deal. hahahah...

the quality of the sashimi is not that amazing and i really wish the sashimi and sushi was colder (although the plates were placed on ice, the sashimi was exposed and therefore not cold). but other than that, it was awesome :D

i especially love the coconuts and you've gotta save a whole section of your tummy for the gazillion desserts! its got more cakes and desserts than your average bakery!

we were soo full last night that after dinner we just had to have a walk, so we walked around our condo while chatting. it was really nice, it reminded me of how much i loved walking in the UK, coz of the temperature last night and also the air was really clean (there was a huge downpour in the afternoon). we walked for like an hour and i didnt even realize how tired my legs were until i was back in my condo. lol.

ge dong dong

hello stranger.

its been over a month since i last blogged, so whats changed since then?

nothing much really. im living practically paycheck to paycheck. ok fine, things wouldnt be soo dire if i ate a little less extravagantly, but hey, this tummy didnt inflate on its own. wtf

oh, and im reading again. yay for me! its a science fiction novel adapted from a video game. i think the series is called warhammer. my colleague warned me that it be all about war and lots of fighting, so i had reservations about it, but its not as bad as he made it sound. its like most fantasy books and they all have wars anyway. cant think of any that i've read that has absolutely zero killing in it. war is a very basic ingredient of fantasy really.

work wise i cant say much due to the very nature of my field, but i've settled in ok. well at least i think i have. i've come across some very interesting cases, but unfortunately i cant discuss them -_-"

moving on...

things arent quite so stable on the accommodation front. the nice, easy going, friendly landlady i thought her to be turned out to be quite the opposite. so tough luck. oh well, hopefully things will get better around here.

and health wise, i think im quite heaty. which annoys me because i think i drink tonnes more water than alot of people, yet i get heatiness. what is this nonsense. i've currently got 4 ulcers in my mouth. one of which is on my tongue, a result of a painful chomping moment.

tomorrow is gonna be quite an eventful day. i've got a farewell party of a colleague's to attend and after that, im going to my friend's house warming party. ah... i miss house parties. eugene used to have them nearly weekly. lol!

but considering that this party will be at a family home and the list of invitees has quite a few lawyers, i think this party will be considerably more toned down. (i just made you wonder how wild the previous house parties i attended were didnt i! suckers! =p)

and i guess thats about all i can think of now.

funny how law is supposed to make me a better thinker, but once i get off work, its like my brain just refuses to function anymore. -___-"

ohai

i've got myself a mini shelf on my table, a cushion on my chair and a kettle since my last post, so thats good :)

also i go down to my uncle's place every weekend to collect food from my gran, so thats good too. beat that sucker (to OBA)!

i've been trying to use maybank2u, but its so mafan. i thought i was all set to pay online after i set up the account, but now it looks like i have to go to a branch to register my mobile number coz they require a new TAC number that will be sent to your phone every single time u do a new transaction. bah!

oh and if you're cheap like me but still wanna have your little luxuries (and are in KL), you can check out these websites. they're like groupon in the UK.

http://mydeal.com.my

http://www.groupsmore.com

http://milkadeal.com

these are the ones i know of. if there are more, do let me know!

and yes, this is why i wanted to activate my maybank2u =p

lazy tuesday

its been a long time since i've had a lazy day with just my laptop.

in fact, its such a lazy day, im too lazy to head out to get myself proper lunch. its ok, i'll get by with bak kua and a cereal bar ;)

i've been working for 2 weeks now and i'd like to think that im doing ok. other matters have also resolved themselves. i've moved into my new place with minor hiccups, but like i said, they're only minor. and my long awaited box has finally arrived in kuching.

as it so happened, the 1st-7th was declared a holiday for my firm, so i'll have some time to fly back to kuching and get my box sorted out before going to Singapore with my family. perfect!

im glad all that has sorted itself out so nicely. now those pimples on my face can stop multiplying. wtf

elsewhere there's been a bit of drama, but i guess that cant be helped seeing as its me. fml

oh, anyone know where to download foreign movies and series with subtitles? i tried DLAzn but not all have subtitles. dammit. so please share some links with me! i wanna make max use out of this super expensive unifi. LOL

on a more random note, i couldnt sleep well the 1st night i moved, even though i was really tired. so that had me worried that i wouldnt be able to sleep well in this room. but last night i was even more exhausted and fell asleep easily, so lets hope i have no more sleeping problems here ;)

im returning to kuching later tonight, then leaving for SG on the 3rd in the morning. so i guess there wont be much time to hangout with the lodgians :(

i'd upload the pics of my room, but after a brief search in my laptop bag, i dont think i brought the what-u-call-it (cable?) to upload pics from my phone into the pc. oh wells.

oh how i miss shopping online. i wish banking online in malaysia were as easy as with lloyds and paypal. but i guess its also a good thing its not, since i have the lower end of a chambies pay in KL. i hate u jo. hahahahahah

i think i need a shelf to put onto my table. for food. coz im a hoarder like that. and a cushion for my chair coz i sit cross-legged and my ankles are knobbly like that. ah a table lamp would be nice too. but we'll see about that coz i just realized i dont think i'll be doing much work at home anyway. i thought i could do without a kettle coz the landlady will have a way of storing water (like how all houses boil water then pour them into jugs for storage/pouring) but i guess she doesnt. so if she still hasnt by the time i come back after CNY, i guess i'll get my own kettle and put it in my room. unfortunately there seems to be only one power point in my room and i dont wanna overload it. ah well, we'll see, we'll see.

other than that and some groceries, i think im set :)

someone has a job!

and that someone is me! no prizes for guessing. too bad.

anyways, im bored and miserable in my uncle's condo so i thought i'd blog since this poor site is just about abandoned anyway.

i start work on monday and while i really cant wait to start, im feeling nervous as well. there are soo many things i havent settled yet. first and foremost being my accommodation. i've found a place to stay but havent paid deposit yet. my paranoid parents have me afraid that its a scam >.<
also i cant move in till the 1st nxt month, which happens to fall on a tues. so i'll have to try to ask my landlady if she'll let me move in on sunday instead coz tues is a working day and i have no idea what time i'll finish work (im hoping i dont have to work past 9pm most days).

until then, i'll just have to stay at my uncle's not entirely pleasant condo. and take a cab to and from work everyday. oh did i mention, i'll be working somewhere in mont kiara. the only way to get there is by car. so cab it is. well, there is a bus that goes there, but the stop is eons away from where i work, i'll have to get a cab anyway. wtf
which is why i really wanna get that accommodation that im looking at.

then there's the issue of my BOX. its still not home! its been nearly half a year! all my working clothes (although not that i had that many) are in there. so what im using now is a hastily acquired collection of working attire. when i was in kuching it was not too bad because i mostly wore my sister's working clothes, but now i can no longer "borrow" from her. so i would dearly love to combine my stuff in the box with my hasty collection or my co-workers will quickly come realize what a limited collection i have ("didnt she already wear that twice last week??"). wtf

ok, enough whining.

xmas time!

I’m very happy to be learning a lot… im not getting much individual attention, but its understandable coz it’s the end of the year and everyone is crazy busy. It’s a great time to be working though, coz this way I get to do so many things in a shorter span of time as compared to if it were during the slower months of the year. Basically, I’m getting to learn more in less time! On the other hand it means busy busy busy!

But it still beats the KL schedule I suppose. Not that I’ve had any experience of it before, but from what I’ve heard of it, its nuts!

Xmas is coming up! Ive got celebrations all lined up this week. 1st celebration was last night, for winter solstice. We had a steamboat! But I didn’t enjoy it so much coz I prefer to have my own individual pot for steamboat… coz im just a dictator like that =p

Then tonight im going over to jo’s place for a potluck party. Im bringing bananas! Super wtf right? LOL but its an inside joke ok! Let me tell u what happened…

(note: jo is bananas over bananas)

I wanted to see jo’s cover letter and CV, so I texted her something like:

“Please send me your cover letter and CV for consideration. Lucrative salary offered: 1 bunch of bananas a month.”

After some negotiation, she raised it to 2 bunches of bananas and ice cream or something then sent me her docs.

Ever since, she’s been bugging me for bananas! Even after I pointed out that she was sending me her docs FOR CONSIDERATION only. Sucker! Muahaha

But since im soo nice and all, I’ll bring bananas tonight for her potluck party! Hahahahaha…

Tonight looks set to be a fun night with the lodgians :D

Tomorrow night, my family is gonna celebrate xmas eve dinner! Did I mention that we already have an xmas tree up?? It was up since a week or two ago! We even got it new lights coz the old ones went kaput. Its very pwetty :D

For dinner, we ordered turkey from swak club and I ordered marinated lamb leg from ting & ting. I’ll stick it into the oven when I get home from work and my sis is gonna do mashed potatoes! Not sure what we’re gonna do for veggies yet though.

And on xmas, were going out for dinner to celebrate my paternal grannie’s birthday! A full course Chinese meal its gonna be!

How are u celebrating?

yet another update

Sorry for the uber long absence, here are a few updates for those who are curious as to what I’ve been up to.

After I came back from London, I bummed about a bit. Then in the 2nd week of November, I began an attachment in a firm in kuching. I initially planned to stop in early dec, but since I felt that I was learning a lot and the people were nice, I decided to stay till the end of dec.

So I will most probably send my CV to the kl firms in the end of dec and go to kl in jan to begin interviews. The firm I have my eyes on begins chambering sessions in feb, so im hoping to score an interview with them in early jan. that way if they don’t accept me, I’ll still have time to apply with other firms, instead of wasting the whole of jan waiting and hoping.

Why am I choosing to chamber in KL instead of in my hometown, kuching? Simply because I want the flexibility of choice in the future, whether to work in KCH or KL. For the uninitiated, West Msia and Sabah and Sarawak have different laws. The majority of laws are the same, but certain laws (eg. Land laws) are different. Therefore to work in west msia, one would have to chamber for 9 months in west msia. And to work in east misa, one would have to chamber for 12 mths here. However, if one has chambered for 9 months in west msia already, one can apply for an exemption and chamber for an additional 3 months in Sarawak, instead of 12.

So what im planning to do is to chamber 9 months in KL 1st, then come back and do the remaining 3 months. But of course, this plan is subject to change. Like if for example, if I get offered retainment in the firm I chamber in in KL, and the terms of retainment are attractive, I will doubtless reconsider.

Some people I’ve spoken to think it’s a waste of time for me to do chambering in kl. The reason being “its not like u want to live there right?” my answer to that is that I don’t know. If you know me well enough, im not one of those people that ABSOLUTELY HAS to live at home with my family. In fact, im much happier living alone and it irks me to be dependant on people -which I inadvertently become when I live at home.

This in no way means that im not close to my family. I’d even go as far as to say that my family enjoys a rapport beyond which a lot of families I’ve observed have. Its just that I like doing my own thing too much. After 5 years of living away from home and fending for myself, I feel stifled and overly dependent on my parents when im at home.

Sure, its all too easy to just live at home and have my meals and laundry taken care of, but I feel more in control living alone when I dictate WHEN I eat, WHAT I eat, WHERE I go, WHEN I go out and what TIME I wake up. Hmm.. that just made me sound like such a control freak. Hahaha…

Anyway, my point was that im not a planner and I prefer to just go as life leads me. It has led me pretty well thus far and im rather confident that it will continue to do so ;)

Also, I think while there are many perks to working in kuching (mostly that it saves money and my family is here) there are also many benefits to working in KL. Ie. Higher pay (which is significantly eroded by the high cost of living plus rent – if I don’t stay with my uncle), more work experience (more diverse range of cases), and independence (FTW =p). well, ofcourse there are the crazy working hours… but I guess I’ll survive 0.o

Fine, I also don’t deny that living in London has left me rather spoilt for city life. Not that kuching is not a city, but its just not big and messy enough. It doesn’t have enough clothes or food (2 things I love) choices.

And KL is near enough that I can fly back whenever I feel like I need some family TLC :D

So I guess that’s all folks!

2010 may and june

im missing london :(

so i decided to finally post some of the hundreds of pictures i had stored months ago.

Image000
this was taken during one of our dining sessions at lincolns inn. if you're wondering why we often take pictures during dining sessions, its because thats when we all dress up and look smart :)

Image006
pretty flowers... unfortunately the candle wax dripped like nobody's business.

Image007
i think jo looks very pretty here. eh jo, steal this pic. haha...

Image008
with nat at jeannie's birthday. this is the only picture i took with my phone. but its ok coz jeannie's bf had a huge ass pro looking cam and took better pics =p

Image011
oh, i liked this outfit!
i wanted to wear the vest coz i bought it and never wore it, and i didnt wanna look too business-y coz it was just a girls night out, so i paired it with jeans shorts that errr... i cut myself from a pair of old jeans =p

Image012
love the fit of this vest!

Image013

Image014
it was cold out, so i wore tights.

Image017
slapped on some makeup and i was out the door! (i think i was early for once!)

dinner was at incognico

Image018
i think this was supposed to be minestrone soup... didnt seem like it to me. i didnt fancy it much.

Image020

Image021
min yuen n jeannie were much smarter and both opted for fish starters that i must admit were wayy better than the soup.

Image022
their pork chop

Image024
my sea bass (this time i think mine was nicer =p)

Image025
min yuen

Image026

Image027
jeannie

Image029

Image030
nice table centrepiece

Image031
hmm... i cant remember if this was good or not... my fault for blogging so late =p

Image028
i had these huge portobello mushrooms in my fridge, so i stuffed them with cheese, herbs and tomatoes!

Image032
fried rice n some pork leg thingy that i probably got from tesco or something.

Image034
random "my little pony" that i saw on someones garden wall

Image035
pasta with meatballs and stuffed mushroom

Image036
lovely pink roses

Image038
i used to do some mystery shopping to supplement my pocket money and this was one of the receipts i had to take a picture of as proof for the mystery shopping company.

Image039
man... i used to be so healthy!

Image040
the next few pics are gonna be of the same dress with different belts coz i was trying to figure out which matched it best.

Image041
i was supposed to slim down to fit the dress, but eventually i altered the dress myself to get it to fit me =p

Image042
the pattern of the cloth is reminiscent of my primary school uniform. i have half a mind to wear it to school one day =p

Image043
to date i havent worn the dress out yet coz its slightly outlandish... even more so now that im back in malaysia. ok fine, also coz i gained weight. fml

Image044

Image045

Image046
mantou instead of rice coz its faster to cook. wtf

Image047
ready for dinner with alex at theo randall
we went there with high expectations coz of the high ratings and good comments on toptable, but alas it was a disappointment :(
not to say that the food was bad... it just wasnt as awesome as we hoped it would be :(

Image048
i love this dress! it can be worn in a multitude of ways! :D
its one of the only things i got from the american apparel rummage sale.

Image049

Image050
got slippers at the side. HAHAHAHAHA

Image051

Image052
complimentary bread

Image053
i cant remember what this is... could be devon crab.

Image054
some sort if ravioli... not bad

Image056
i like this picture :)

Image057
my sea bream (?) tasted so-so

Image058
it came with veggies.

Image059

Image062
i rather liked this tho :)

Image063
complimentary truffles

Image064
then we decided to walk all the way home from mayfair.

Image066
so i walked all the way through hyde park in heels

Image067
im mimicking the statue btw

Image068
at least we managed to get some pretty pics out of the walk, with the flowers blooming and all...

Image069
if u were in london around may and june 2010, you would not have missed elephants all over the place. they were done by artists and being sold for charity if im not mistaken.

Image071
another picture of the flowers still gorgeous... they lasted several weeks!
in malaysia my roses always wilted in a few days. fml

Image073
my attempt at making a wrap. eh not my fault the bread was so lousy it tore so easily ok!

Image074
sunscreen check. hat check. shades check.
all ready for shi jye's picnic!

Image075
i super love this dress. partly because i've always been partial towards oriental prints, but the clincher was when i discovered that this dress was a wraparound! totally ingenious!

Image077
i'll post up the rest of the pics that i took at the picnic later coz these are all the pics from my phone and the rest of the pics are in my cam.

Image078
random outfit picture coz i liked that my scarves and ballet flats were purple :D

Image079
taken when i was still interested in going to china.

Image080
i tend to take my outfit pics in the lift coz thats the only time i have to take them (im usually running [literally] late) and if im a lil slow, the lift reaches and the doors open, resulting in shaky pics coz i dont wanna get caught camwhoring. hahahaha

Image081
my attempt at salad. i was so pleased that i managed to get the beef just right. cooked on the outside but red on the inside!

Image082
ah this was when i signed up for the studio london and jordan burr thingy

Image083
i took their pics so that if it was a scam, i'd have proof of their identities. hahahahahah

Image084
black, white n grey
i like this outfit too :D

Image085

Image086

and thats all the pics for now. i'll post the rest up when i either feel nostalgic or rajin or both.
