oh lookie what have we here

if you use blogger, you would notice a button on your dashboard called 'blogger buzz'.

i rarely browse there, but i did today and i found this blog.

its really interesting to read the story of expats in Malaysia. to view my country through their eyes, especially when they've just newly arrived!

***************

im supposed to be doing my case commentary now, but every time i switch to my assignment, i immediately start feeling restless.

***************

judgment.

i try not to judge. really i do.

but the bad thing about not judging people is that u begin to accept all kinds of behavior. you give people allowances that maybe you shouldn't have.

i dont do certain things and i dont judge others for doing them.

but maybe i should?

am i not condoning this behavior if i allow it to happen unfettered?

empathy.

sometimes i wish i didnt have it.

because sometimes its kinder to be cruel.

cobra

this song is just too cute! and i mean the tune, not the ugly alfie. lol~

im not much of a music fan, but lily allen's songs appeal to me. i like 'LDN' and 'smile' too.

**************

aiyahhhhh... y do i always embarrass myself?!

just now, i did a huge-ass load of laundry. so i planned on separating my clothes into 2 dryers. but when i did that, it seemed like both piles of clothes were quite small... but as a single pile, i was afraid that they wouldnt dry properly. so i took out my towel and some items that i could dry on my heater in my room.

with my arms partially laden (i didnt bring a bag with me because i had come down thinking only to transfer clothes from the washing machine to the dryer), i exited the laundry room, smiling to myself because i had saved a pound for only using one dryer.

that was when i realised... that i left my key in the laundry room (we need a resident's key to access the laundry room. the resident's key triples up as my flat and room key too). crap!

so i had to go to reception, hoping madly that the security guard would be there, (with my arms still laden with laundry) and ask the security guard to open the laundry room door.

the security guard tried to initiate small talk, asking where i was from. i told him i was from malaysia and he said he had lived there when he was younger. then he said something about cobras being scary and always entering his malaysian home. this confused me because i know that we have alot of ular sawar and other snakes, but cobras? so i smiled and ran in to get my key n bid him goodnight.

for all you know, im stalking you on facebook

i am... on facebook busy being a stalker.

mel, i watched 'Dracula 2000' and its not bad. not as awesome as 'dark prince' though =p
oh ya, and it had omar epps (the guy in 'house')! i didnt expect that. haha...
i found the ending a bit lame though =p

jealousy is a strange thing. i find myself jealous of someone that has something that i dont even want anymore. does that make sense???

mummy says im not to eat pork because of the swine flu thats circulating the globe. but i heard that my friends might be cooking bak kut teh tomorrow... how lerrrrr

i finally bought weighing scales today! boots was out of stock, so i crossed over to superdrug to check. then the lady said why not try argos? and i was like, duh! so stupid of me to not think of argos!

and they were only selling it for $3.89 at argos as opposed to $5 at boots. luckily boots ran out :D

and after 3/4 of a year here, i finally realized that superdrug is wayyy cheaper than boots (but boots has advantagecard points). and i baru bought some stuff at boots, of which were about $2 less at superdrug. thats over 10 ringgit wei! T.T

see kids, this is why u go to different stores to COMPARE PRICES.

oh ya, and an embarrassing thing happened to me the other day at work. u see right, my hours have been cut and it had been about 2 weeks since i last had a shift (i work on sundays, but last sunday we went paintballing).

so i was working during my shift, then i went to toilet. after i came out, i had to punch in the security code to get into the kitchen area. at that moment, a colleague (who was not working that day, and i have no idea what he was doing at subway, but he always randomly goes to subway anyway) scared me. then i forgot the security code!

i punched in different variations. then at last my colleague had to do it for me. wtf
summore when he scared me, i shouted "you freak!". but what i really meant to say was "you freaked me out". somehow the "-ed me out" died on my lips.

and there were customers watching. fml

***************

guess my weight!
i'll tell you if you get it right, but any guesses over 70kg and i will hunt you down.

dark prince

i just watched 'dark prince'. absolutely brilliant!

it was released in 2000. but i cant remember ever hearing about it before. hmm...

i only found it because i was looking for a horror film to watch, and one link led to another.

but dont get the wrong idea, this is NOT a horror film. it is more like a historic retelling of the tale of how Dracula came about.

watching this movie, i sympathize with Dracula and resent the church. but thats the way it is in history isnt it? the hands of the church are stained with blood.
(but as always, i shall now steer clear of the topic of religion. too sensitive an issue!)

it is a MUST WATCH!

here is the link

but im not sure if you will be able to stream it if you're not in the UK. ah yes, another joy of being in the UK. video streaming!

***************

girls, here's a beauty tip!

u know those tubes of lipgloss that we use, towards the end, we can always see loads of lipgloss in the tube, but we just cant reach it?

so u throw it away and get a new one?

dont!

***************

hmm... my housemates have been very quiet recently. it is so out of character that im becoming curious...

the truth about...

on hindsight, i thought that the photos in my previous post were really too scary, so i minimized them to also minimize the puke effect.

johhny is so mean, say until like i have no life like that. i really dont la, and i did say that i have no social life, but u dont have to be so frank mar! *sobs* =p

btw, those pictures were meant to be taken in the most unflattering poses and light. i wanted to see how i would look at my absolute worst. and the result is horrendous indeed.

oh ya, jo, this is not the 1st time i played with eyeliner what. i remember doing this in subang with u and charles. summore YOU were the one who drew on my face! wtf

***************

ok, now serious.

read 'The truth about Malaysia'.

it really saddens me that a country can be in a state where people just stop caring. where corruption is everywhere you turn. where the judiciary is as good as dead. where any one who dares to try to speak out, or make a change, is disposed of. where instead of the democracy i have learnt : "by the people, FOR the people", the Goverment operates solely for it own benefit. where people have lived in fear for so long, that they even forget that they are living in fear because fear has become the norm for them.

beauty is beyond skin deep

yea, keep the title in mind as u scroll through the following pictures =p

i realize posting up super ugly pictures of oneself is akin to social suicide, but i figured heck, why not? my social life died several months ago anyway -_-"

and, (yes there is an 'and'!) i believe my readers arent that shallow anyway :D
*sentence inserted to reverse psycho the readers into not being shallow. wtf*

you see right... one day after i came home from i-forgot-what-outing, i was wondering what i would look like if i did the super thick black eyeliner thing that alot of asians with single eyelids tend to do.

so i took up my 'barry m super soft eye crayon' (which i bought awhile back for this purpose but never dared to actually put to use) and started experimenting...

then since i was experimenting, i wondered what i would look like with super black eyebags...

Image016
... and black lip liner

Image017
yes, arent i just the prettiest little thing?

Image019
'pan cute' summore. WTF
Image018
no la, actually i didnt draw on the eye bags. it was what happened after i drew a thick line of eyeliner onto my eyelid, then blinked very hard. the colour transferred to my under eye.

please remind me to never try out the thick eyeliner look again lest this happens in public. *digs a hole*

Image026
rocker... or is it punk??
Image027
sad rocker. wtf

Image028
after this i coloured my entire lips black
Image029
emo

Image030
where are my band members!
Image031
looking down so that u can appreciate the thickness of my eyeliner.
3/4 of this much eyeshadow disappears every time i open my eyes. fml
Image032
even my fillings are black -_-"

Image033
can u see the mild black freckles i dotted onto my cheeks?
Image034
can u imagine this as a normal picture without the black markings on my face?
Image035
arabian nights

Image036
suicidal goth. wtf

Image037
oki! (mole)
Image038
*licks lips evilly* do u feel the fear??

Image039
bulbous nose to the max

Image040
then i decided that the mild black freckles were not obvious enough.

Image041
blackhead attack

Image042
as my reflection got more and more ridiculous, i was laughing hysterically to myself in the bathroom.

Image043
*pretends that i look normal*

have i imprinted my hideous visage into your minds yet? =p

those were the makeup-gone-very-wrong cases.

now i feel obliged to remind you that i do not always look like that so that u will return to my blog, and my blog stats wont fall, and i will one day finally be able to cashout.

so here is a makeup-gone-right photo.

now dont blame me for your nightmares! =p

dream dream dreeaaammm~~~

i grew up on songs like this.

still love them! :D

anyway, what i really wanted to talk about are my dreams.
i've been having pretty vivid dreams recently. normally, im not much of a dreamer and in the event that i do dream, the dream usually eludes me when i wake up. but the details of these recent dreams have stayed in my mind for longer than usual.

1st dream:
it occurred on the 18th. i still remember because i had my IELTS exam that day and it was a very cold day. so that night when i dreamed, i dreamt that it was snowing again and we were all playing in the snow. that dream was damn real lor, even though the snow had stopped over 2 months ago, when i woke up i still thought that it was snowing again.

2nd dream:
this dream was quite long. it involved me, a guy i used to date (lets call him S), and my cousin.
in this dream, S and i were friends and his older brother wanted to pikat my cousin. so we had to tag along to all the excursions he planned for her. note that in reality S has no older brother. one of the things his brother planned, was dinner in a famous teahouse that was covered in semak samun and located near a beach. dont ask me why a famous teahouse was covered in semak samun. wtf
and i remember feeling very happy because i had always wanted to eat at that teahouse.
in the end i dont know what happened to his brother and my cousin, but S and i kissed. then it was like the whole point of the dream was so that we would kiss. so when we kissed, the dream ended. WTF
summore i cant remember what S looks like in my dream. i only knew it was S because my dream told me so :S

3rd dream:
i was in the room my best friend and her sister rented (except that it looked nothing like the room my best friend and her sister rented in reality). it was huge and consisted of 2 rooms separated by a sliding door. one room had a queen sized bed which was where they slept, and the other room had 2 unoccupied twin sized beds and was linked to the toilet. the reason i was in their room was because i was moving in and they were moving out. so we were sitting around chatting. and we did that for my whole dream. wtf
im so boring that even my dreams are boring
but the scenarios in each dream were so vividly real!

im writing them down so that next time when i read this, i can remind myself of these dreams.

ok la, back to admin law. gotta hand it in early tomorrow morning!

i NEED to make you happy

"i love you so much. i want to make you happy, i NEED to make you happy."

.... then he proposes.

~From: 'He's just not that into you'~

*melts*

ok la, it may not seem THAT heart melting, but if you consider the fact that he is the i'd-rather-die-than-get-married kinda guy, then... *MELT*

side note: i am soo relieved that Ming is still in!!! what are u people in Malaysia doing??? vote vote vote!!

there's a freedom in my heart

there's a freedom in my heart,
because i know they will never part,
undeniably there is a tinge of grief,
a sorrow beyond belief,
there is a thorn within me,
i know its name to be envy,
nevertheless this revelation is something i would bless,
its all part of the process,
growing wings,
no longer running in rings,
i will get by,
and all will witness me fly,
though i know not where i am going,
at least i will be soaring.

***************

sappy poem aside, my housemates are back! they came back from their easter break yesterday. damn.

there goes my peace and quiet!

my peace and quiet is also disturbed by an unlikely source.

birds!
they start chirping at about 2.30am.

its so annoying! and its difficult to fall asleep with their incessant chirping.

dont get me wrong, i do like the sound of birds chirping... IN THE MORNING. when i am AWAKE or WAKING UP. not when im trying to SLEEP!

to kill a mocking bird indeed!

maasra

i finished my book today. i really meant to be reading up on admin law instead, but i just couldnt concentrate. so i knew i just had to finish the book before i could start anything else. *sigh* it has always been like that with me.

can u believe i used to get into fights with my friends in primary school just because of my reading habits?? haha... too much of a bookworm lah.

but its been a long time since i immersed myself in a good book and ahh... it was good~~

but oh noes, only 3 days left to finish my admin!

i know i've said this for about a week now, but i really have to get cracking!

ps: unless u read the 'veil of a thousand tears', u will have no idea what the title means.

pps: ok la, the title means: veil of a thousand tears. wtf

subway day

i am utterly exhausted!

1st, lemme tell u why i didnt blog yesterday. i had my ielts test at 9am, but i had to wake up at 6am to catch the 7am bus to the city centre, then catch another bus to summer town. and the night before, i barely slept (not due to nerves, but i havent been able to slip easily to sleep recently. very frustrating i tell u.) 4 hours.

so after the test, i had lunch then bought some groceries and headed home. once i got home at about 5.30pm i washed up, read a bit (the ebay book) and crashed on my bed at 7.30pm. hence no blogging.

today, i woke up at 6am and had a heavy breakfast before meeting up with my subway colleagues and also those who worked on other subway branches... to... ... ... paintball!!!

yay! i was so excited! it was my 1st time playing paintball :D

the venue was somewhere outside Reading, about 2 hours from Oxford. the ride had so many twists and turns, i was rather carsick by the time we reached :S

however, that soon passed in the excitement of preparing for "battle" =p

we had to wear a protective vest, a jumpsuit and a helmet (which stunk!). then we were divided into 2 teams. red and blue. there were another 2 teams, brown and green. but blue and red played against each other and likewise for brown and green.

our groups then joined the other blues and reds. we played about 5 rounds, with breaks and lunch in between.

1st game: both teams start at opposing ends of the field and try to kill off all their enemies. if they manage to kill off the other team within the time limit, they get 10 points. but if the teams exceed the time limit, even if one team has all its members and the other team has only one member left, it will be considered a draw.

2nd game: a totem head is placed in the middle of a bridge and both teams begin on opposing ends of the field. the aim is to steal the totem and place it at your oponents base. after the game, the teams switched bases and played again.

3rd game: this one was called graveyard. im not sure why though. the teams are divided into attackers and defenders. the aim of this game is to kill the defendant's president (who has to wear a bright orange vest) within the time limit. my stupid colleague volunteered me to be the president. therefore it was the most boring game for me. i had to sit in the ditch (and fearfully watch a centipede) where i was safe and let the others play. wtf
i couldnt join them because i wasnt even supposed to be seen by the enemy, because once i was shot, my whole team would lose. chis! most boring 15 minutes ever.
luckily my team won and when we switched roles with the other team, i was able to play. then i was so excited, that i became the 1st one killed. WTF

4th game: there are 4 buildings in the field and the aim of the game is to gain control of all 4 buildings within the time limit. my team won both rounds. muahaha~
and i did not get shot at all because i never left the 1st house i entered, which also happened to be the house furthest from the enemy. wtf!

5th game: there is a building in the centre of the field. one team has it as their base and they have to defend it from the other team which will attempt to place a mock dynamite in it. the game ends either once the dynamite is placed (no throwing) in the building (which technically can only happen after you've killed everyone in the building) or when it reaches the time limit. in this game, it rocks to be the attacker because its the only game that we get to respawn. however, it sucks to be the defender because u get cornered up in the building and they attack you from all sides and u cant respawn. its like waiting to be killed and hope that u manage to survive till the times up. after a game, we reverse roles.

my only complaint was that paint pellets were damn expensive (6.99pounds for 100 pellets), so we only got very few pellets each. if we wanted more, we had to pay for them ourselves. in the end, i couldnt tahan being ammo-less, so i shared with a colleague to buy a packet of pellets.

after the games had ended, the winning team was declared and certificates given to the members. so i now have a paintballing certificate. LOL.

we then headed to Reading to chill in the Oracle for awhile (a shopping centre) and have ice-cream.

on the way home, we stopped by a field of yellow flowers to take pictures. it was soooo amazing and beautiful! exactly like those postcard pictures! i dont have the pictures with me now, but i'll post them up with the paintball pictures when i get them :D

so here i am now, freshly showered and bone weary. imma fill my tummy then hit the sack. nights!

its xmas... not really =p

i received another call this morning... make a wild guess about what it was about =p

i had 3 more packages!

a pink skirt (knee-length very ladylike =p), the book i mentioned in an earlier post (which i am now 200+ pages through) and a very gorgeous knee-length miss sixty denim trench coat (which i just hand washed and hope it will dry in time for me to wear tomorrow)!

the reception guy totally recognizes me and my bleary morning face now. he even joked that "its like xmas!"
in my just-threw-on-a-coat-and-ran-downstairs state, all i could manage was a little laugh. no great comeback. darn. my eyes were barely open through my crust of u-know-what covering them. so much for friendly asians.

i still have about 3 packages to receive, so he'll be seeing more of me =p

i have to wake up at 7am tomorrow (omg, please kill me now) for my ielts exam. so i guess i'll be off to bed now. nights!

smooth talker

this morning i was awoken by my room phone ringing at about 10am. normally it would make me grumpy, but i somehow knew that the call would be about my packages from ebay, so i joyfully sprang up to answer the call. and it was indeed my packages!

so i went to the reception to collect them. there were about 3 packages. so i happily put them on my table then went to sleep again.

i woke at about 2pm and got myself a banana, then switched on my laptop before i started opening my packages while checking my emails.

my mum had emailed me, so i called her and we started to skype. that was when i received the 2nd call. it was more packages!!!

this time there were about 5! i was so so happy! it felt like christmas! no better, because these were all handpicked myself and i dont usually receive many presents for xmas -if at all. *big wide grin*

so i ecstatically, opened my packages in front of my family while blocking out my sisters running commentary about "why do u need that?!" "that skirt is too short!" and etc and shared my enthusiasm with them although i have a feeling they were all just layan-ing me.

then i had my IELTS speaking test today and i think it went great :D

after that caroline and i went and had chinese food for dinner. on my way home, i received a call from anson to go over to his place as he had free cakes and pastries from the bakery he works at. so after going home to change into home clothes, i went to his place and a group of us spent the rest of the night pigging out and playing cards.

i had an awesome day! how was yours?

i like market day~

i baked cookies again tonight. nothing special, just butter cookies. i think i need to find a better recipe though, these are a tad day for my liking.

tomorrow is market day again! market day gives me a chance to escape from staying in my room 24/7. yes, i have no life T.T
i have soo many things to buy tomorrow, i hope i'll be able to carry it all :S

i'll have to stop by the post office 1st, then boots, then finally hit the market.

to buy at boots:
weighing scales (i have finally decided that i need to put a stop to a whole year of not knowing my weight. plus it fits in with the weight loss goal. i initially didnt buy one because i thought i'd only be staying a year in the uk, but since im now gonna be staying another year, its about time i got one.)
black eye shadow (cherie, dont look at me like that, i've got a $2 voucher! and btw, can u gimme ur boots password? i'll need to change the address next year. plus i wanna use those advantage point kiosks)

to buy at the market:
2 types of fruits (im predicting im gonna end up with grapes n strawberries. i still have 3-4 apples in my fridge. i hope there will be cherries, but last week there werent any T.T )
carrots
potatoes
at least 2 kinds of veggies
2/3 different types of fish
meat (hopefully i'll finally get the courage to buy from the butcher. if not i'll need to go to sainsbury. wtf )

im not a coward, the butcher is scary ok. *defensive*

i bet none of you were really interested in my shopping list. but i am, so too bad. muahaha

the great lotion review

i've been here only 8 months and i am already on my 5th bottle of lotion.
so i figured i'd better put some of that lotion experience to use and write a review of all the lotions i've used since coming to the uk.

i arrived here with a small 120ml bottle of vaseline essential moisture lotion.
i didnt bring a big bottle because the travel sized bottle was supposed to tide me over until i had settled down.

i think this was an ok lotion. despite the words "essential moisture", i didnt find the lotion very rich. it was more watery than creamy actually. the good news about watery lotion is that it dries fast. whether or not it is absorbed or it evaporated like water, im not sure... half half?

i'd recommend this lotion to those staying in more humid countries like malaysia, as it is not the rich oily kind that would make you feel uncomfortable when u start sweating. however, if you want soft smooth skin in a dry country like uk, this is not for you.

the next lotion i tried was the ted baker heavenly body souffle (5.95pounds) which i got in boots.

i think this was pretty good :)
at 1st, i thought the scent was pleasant and didnt think too much of it, but the more i used it, the more the scent grew on me and now i think the scent is very very nice indeed!
also, the cream is satisfyingly rich and moisturises really well.

on the downside, it may take awhile for your skin to absorb. this is not a problem to me as i have developed the habit of sitting around semi-naked in my room after i shower to allow my lotion to absorb into my skin (i really dont like the idea of lotion transferring to my clothes). but this may cause problems for those with roommates =p

then came my mild No7 craze and i bought No7 completely quenched luxurious moisture lotion.
this set me back 9.05pounds. (ouch!)
btw, the link is for the american boots. i dont know why i cant find it in the uk boots.

the scent for this one was not as nice as the ted baker one, but still it was quite nice. its is also not as rich, and the absorbence time is about the same.

basically its a decent lotion overall, but nothing to shout about.
and definitely not value for money.

after that lotion, i was thirsting for a rich yet affordable lotion. and i knew just what to get. the trusty palmers cocoa butter!

i've used this before in malaysia and absolutely love the smell to bits! for those that have never smelt this lotion before, it smells like freshly baked cookies! no kidding!

and this lotion is really creamy and rich. waiting for it to fully absorb may be a pain, but its worth the wait! however, i didnt enjoy using it as much in malaysia because if u sweat within the 1st few hours of applying this lotion, u get an oily feeling. and unless u dont leave your air conditioned room, its pretty hard not to sweat in malaysia.

when this lotion was nearly finished, i bought sanctuary spa essentials creme souffle. sounds more like food than creme =p
(8.76pounds)

pretty pricey as well, but considering that its semi-branded and a really big tub(more than twice the volume of the No7), it balances out :)

the great thing about this lotion is that although it is quite rich, it absorbs really quickly! great for when u need to go out soon after your shower =p

the smell is so-so, some might not like it, but i find it ok.

as the name says, its a creme souffle, so the lotion has been whipped and is exceedingly soft! like applying whipped cream to your body! when i 1st started, due to the texture of the cream, i was unsure how much to put, but as i use it more often, im getting better at approximating how much to use.

ah and the good thing about creams in tubs is that there will be no wastage! unlike the cream in bottles. i always feel so sayang for the left over cream :(
so if its a tube (eg. conditioner), i'll cut it open to scrape off all the remainders. you'd be surprised at how much remainder there is in the tube! sometimes enough for me to use up to 3 more times!

so thats all the lotions i've used since coming here. i dont think im gonna repeat any of them soon as i like trying out new brands. hehe~

its really difficult to rank them from worst to best or vice versa because i think they're all good at different stuff... but a review is not complete without a ranking... :(

aiyah, here goes la.
from worst to best (factors such as climate and price were considered):
5.vaseline
4.No7
3.sanctuary
2.palmers
1.ted baker

actually palmers, sanctuary and ted baker tied.
so i had to deduct points from sanctuary because of its scent.
then between palmers and ted baker -both of which smell beautiful, i deducted points from palmers because of the oily feeling i sometimes get when using it. thus deriving at my rankings.

the end! i hope u liked my review =p

easter weekend

i am not enjoying this easter weekend at all.

mainly because due to the holidays, none of my mail is coming in.
a.k.a none of the stuff i bought on ebay.

and nothing makes my heart skip a beat the way receiving packages in the mail does. ok, i might be exaggerating a little here, but it comes pretty close!

another reason im not liking this holiday much is because the supermarkets are closed!
which means that i cant go grocery shopping, which means i'll have to survive on apples, cereal and frozen wantons tomorrow.

all would be made more bearable if i could pop down to london for a couple of days, but my beloved flew back to malaysia, so i cant crash at her place and even if i could, there would be no point without her company.

i could go visit jo... but she would probably kick me back to oxford and tell me she has to study and that i should be doing my assignments T.T (where is the love yo!)

so all in all, this easter hasnt been my cup of tea.

grumblings aside, im currently watching 'the sisterhood of the traveling pants 2'. and i love lena's style! :D
oh, and the chinese boy tibby was dating is really hot =p

when i say "currently watching", it means that i was streaming it on tv-dome, but since it was using megavideo, i have used up my 72minutes of video today and have to wait 54minutes before i can begin again -_-"

and not that any of you are interested, but i bought a book on ebay! its 'The Veil of a Thousand Tears' by Eric Van Lustbader (which i strongly suspect is just a pseudonym because that name is just too cool to be true)for just 0.99p! its the sequel to 'The Ring of Five Dragons' which i bought last year, so im quite excited to read it!

im sitting for my IELTS again soon (because of the stupid rule that every single section must be 7.5 not withstanding that my average is 8.0 -_-) so i shall use the excuse that reading that book will be to improve my english! :D

im weaning myself off ebay. after the initial flurry of buying things, i've sorta run out of things to buy -_-"

thats all for now :)

if u look closely, u will see that the whole tree is blooming.
(im not sure if u can use the word "bloom" for trees, but i cant think of any other word...)

Image615
a couple shisha-ing in the field.
damn syok lor them. enjoy betul.

but i kinda suspect it wasnt shisha flavours that they were using, but weed.
thats why i took the picture when i was far away from them, hence the bad zoom quality.
