quantum of damages

busy busy busy!

ok la ron, this post is mostly for law freaks like u.

im gonna talk about my assignment. and if u are really so interested in it, i might even send u my assignment when im done. wtf

so for my "advanced legal method" subject, its 100% coursework. i have to prepare a brief for my client and also write a reflective journal while im at it.

in the question, i need to calculate an estimate of damages for the client.
i am given several correspondences between law firm and the client, the respondent, the client's employers, the woman who cared for the client, the doctor who saw to the client.

i need to gather all the information that i can from these correspondences and calculate how much the respondent will need to pay the client. this includes special damages, general damages, future loss and wadever.

hmm, that doesnt sound very tough, but add in stuff like actuarial tables and "multiplier calculated with allowance for projected mortality from the based population projections and rate of return of..." and u get the point. nonsense i tell u! (eh, i thought ppl went into law coz they couldnt do math? =p)

so the hardest part is that this subject teaches us how to do research. it does not teach us how to calculate damages. we're supposed to use our research skills to find out ourselves, how to calculate damages. WTF

so the brief will be 40%

the other part of the coursework is the reflective diary which carries 60%.
thank god this carries the higher percentage coz this part is wayyy easier. all i have to do is to lie about document my journey of research of how i came to my answer.

so ya la, thats it. actually quite interesting and extremely relevant to becoming a practicing lawyer, but haiyar, spoon feeding is more of my thing. WTF
