jamie's italian

im checking out the michelin guide of 3 star restaurants. which reminds me that i havent blogged about eating at jamie's italian yet!

so here's the post on jamie's italian!

Image057
all dressed up for dinner!

haiya, everytime i makeup, it looks like no makeup wan -_-"

Image058
ok la, can see more colour in this pic :D

so after getting all dolled up for dinner, i met up with caroline at the bus stop and we went to the city centre where jamie's is located.

Image059
"what should i order? *garu garu*"
lol!

we reached there at about 5.30pm. we went there especially early because we wanted to avoid the dinner-time queue (which is a nightmare). and our effort was rewarded as we were shown right in.

note that you could make a reservation, but ONLY if you have 8 people or more.
their reason being "In order to make the experience as accessible as possible, we’re not taking bookings. You simply need to come along to the restaurant at a time that suits you and we’ll get you a table as soon as we possibly can."

(but we all know that its too increase the customer turnover rate! =p)

jamie's italian in oxford was the 1st jamie's itallian opened!

and yes, jamie's italian's founder is jamie oliver!

which explains why i was so excited to eat here! ;)

it was early, so there werent many people yet.

the atmosphere was very relaxed and cosy. and the waiters were very attentive. or at least the guy that attended to us was. maybe he was the manager.

anyways, im quite a particular person when it comes to ordering good food, so i ask a million questions about the food. and he was patient in explaining the stuff and didnt rush my order. but im sure it would have been different if it were peak hour as the atmosphere changes from relaxed to rushed.

Image066
thats the wine bar up there.

Image067
camwhoring is a must =p

Image068
the temperature inside was cool.

not too warm, nor chilly. so i left my knit on. i took off my coat though.

Image070
another pic of the restaurant.

pardon the quality of the pics, a bit paiseh to be taking pictures. like jakun liddat. LOL!

my truffle tagliatelle (6 pounds)

when the plate 1st came, i was quite disappointed because it looked so plain and the portion looked small. however, upon tasting it, i found it to be very deliciously creamy and cheesy. and in the end, the portion was just right to fill my tummy without overdosing and becoming jelak of the dish as tends to happen with creamy cheesy dishes.

i'd definitely order this again (after trying out other dishes next time!).

caroline's lamb chops scorched fingers (13.85 pounds)

again we were dismayed by the portion size, and unlike the pasta which was a plate full of carbs, caroline didnt feel full after eating this. however, the lamb was cooked to perfection as i like my lamb with a little blood in it.

one gripe i have about both dishes is that they werent HOT. as in heat. they were just warm. so by the time you're halfway into it, its already cold :(

our theory is that they serve dishes at this temperature so that customers can immediately eat the food without waiting for it to cool down. but nevertheless, i prefer my food hot.

for dessert, it was a toss up between brownies (this), ice cream and tiramisu.

brownies triumphed. (4.75 pounds)

it was a banana brownie served with bourbon vanilla ice cream :D
(sorry, we dug into it b4 i remembered to take a picture =p)

the brownie was slightly hard on the outside n soft inside. i dont know if it was meant to be that way, but i prefer my brownie moist n slightly gooey like bing's brownies *nostalgic*. but tastewise, it was good.

overall, i'd say the food is very good for its price range and i'd definitely be back!

(my 1st proper food review! *proud*)
