***************
so here are the pics i took when i was in london.
found on the wall of a dressing room
there were more quotes, but i was kinda in a hurry :S
outfit of the day
plus very red scarf to feel the chinese new year spirit. wtf
the brand new stuff i wore that day: socks, underwear, top, vest
semi-new: bag n wallet
like i said in the previous post, we went to awana for dinner.
we got off at the south kensington tube stop and found our way to the restaurant. its fairly easy to find if u have the map with you :)
remember that i said that i wanted to go to the hummingbird bakery at portobello market but it was closed? well, as stella and i were searching for awana at south kensington, i spotted another branch! whee!!! it must have been fate :D
so we popped in and took away (its more expensive to eat-in and we were just about to have dinner anyway) 3 cupcakes including the ever so famous red velvet.
a few minutes later, we found awana (quite by accident. wtf) and decided to go in even if we were quite early for our 6.30pm reservation.
at the reception, they took our jackets and gave us a tag. then we were told to wait in the lounge area while they prepared our table. then we were asked if we wanted any drinks. we asked for tap water. according to a review of the restaurant, the lounge is just a ploy to try to increase revenue with expensive drinks. so heads up people!
soon we were seated and given menus.
my CNY date
while ordering, i asked many questions about the laksa as i wanted to make sure if it was the sarawak laksa or west malaysian laksa. i didnt quite like the waiter as he said it was just MALAYSIAN laksa and didnt show any signs of wanting to ask the manager or anyone else for the information i wanted. sorry la, but im quite picky when it comes to service in posh or semi-posh restaurants. so in the end i gave up and just ordered laksa, come what may. wtf
another minor gripe i had was that the lighting was too dim.
i had to adjust the lighting in all my pics.
great if u have an ugly date, but not so good if u want to take pictures or have a good look at the food they are serving.
the ambience otherwise was very nice and classy though.
too dark so i had to use the candle to illuminate the photos. wtf
stella doesnt like this photo but i think its nice =p
i like how she pairs her bustier with a tshirt :)
the bad thing about using a candle for illumination in pics is the unibrow it created with the help of my spectacles.
the unibrow that u will now see in every picture T.T
except this one because i only have one brow in this pic. wtf
hi, im the hungry unibrow monster. feed me!
finally i have my hummingbird bakery cupcakes!
the tag that they gave for hanging our coats.
awana address... if u can read it =p
the arrival of the food was signified by the presence of a hunky long haired chinese waiter *wink*
sotong bakar 8pounds (damn i wish my keyboard had the pound sign).
in malaysia, im not usually tempted to eat sotong. i mean i dont hate sotong, but im not a die-hard fan either. so when stella asked me to try her dish, i wasnt all excited. but when i put it into my mouth... omg so yummy wei! the sotong was the perfect level of smelliness but not overwhelmingly pungent. and whatever they stuffed complemented the sotong perfectly! i couldnt help myself from taking another piece, and nearly took another, but paiseh because it was stella's food and there wasnt much in the 1st place.
both stella and i had laksa as our main course.
$14.80
at 1st i was kinda disappointed that it looked like the west malaysian curry style laksa, but the noodles were our sarawakian style laksa vermicelli. still disappointed with the curry-like sauce, i took a mouthful... of heaven! it was so so coconuty! and strangely slightly sweet, but in a nice way. its kinda like sarawak laksa (its prawn based), but also NOT like it. hard to explain, but u'll have to try it yourself. i cant say how much it is like the west malaysian laksa because i've never tried it (i've always been put off by the curry-ish appearance and yellow noodles), but this dish was a WINNER!
i ordered a dragon eye cocktail.
i figured that it was CNY afterall, so we should have at least a sip of alcohol.
for those of u who like fruity alcohol, u MUST try this! so so yummy. and im not even an alcohol fan! so if i say its good, it must be!
this is my kuih bingka which is basically just tapioca cake.
they served it warm with a cold santan-ish dip. it was so so good, even better than the wet market originals i used to eat back home! (or maybe their trick was serving it warm with a cold sauce which made it taste even better)
this was sooo scrumptious, i ordered 2 to take home, despite one serving costing $6!
more than 10 times more expensive than those back home, but... a taste of home is worth it babeh!
at the doorway
:D
after a very full dinner, feeling satiated, stella and i walked back to the tube station and took the same tube. however, i got off 1st and we parted ways.
once i got home, i was soo excited to take a close look at my cupcakes eventhough i was still to full to eat them, i wanted to check if they were still ok.
the famous red velvet is on the top right. the other 2 are chocolate cupcakes.
i had 2 for breakfast this morning, and i guess i was expecting too much or maybe it was because i left them overnight, but they were'nt as amazing as i hoped they would be.
not even the red velvet :(
